Why invest in a heat pump

Heat Pumps, Heating

One thing is certain, a heating system is one of the most important aspects of life in Canada. It therefore comes as no surprise that there are a few good options for overcoming the difficulties of freezing temperatures: furnaces, radiant floors, heat pumps, and geothermal systems. Heat pumps are among the most popular solutions and for good reason: they are environmentally friendly, convenient (over the long term, they provide savings of 25 to 35 percent for year-round thermal comfort), versatile (heating in winter, air conditioning in summer) and above all, efficient (down to 35 °C).

Operation

In principle at least, heat pumps are simple heating systems that capture heat from the air and move it to a selected location through a cycle the uses piping filled with a refrigerant substance. This is actually the same process that cools refrigerators, just used in reverse. Several types of heat pumps are available, and selecting a pump factors in the floor area of the home, regional climate data, the house’s insulation efficiency, etc. There are central heat pumps, wall heat pumps and multizone heat pumps.

Central heat pumps

Central heat pumps are installed in homes that have air ducts to move air between rooms. Specialists consider central heat pumps the most efficient for thermal comfort in a home. These heating systems are recommended due to their installation, maintenance, outdoor noise level, and size, not to mention their very great diversity.

Our customers prefer York central heat pumps, which feature the latest technology, can control airflow and offer excellent energy performance, yet are reasonably quiet.

Another very popular product that requires a smaller initial investment is the Goodman central heat pump, which is rated Energy Star, with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) between 15 and 18.

Wall heat pumps

Unlike central heat pumps, wall heat pumps require no air ducts, which makes them much easier to install and, of course, less expensive. However, no matter how high the heat pump’s performance, indoor air temperature will depend in large part on the pump’s location.

Ask our specialists whether a wall heat pump would be best suited to your house. If so, our top recommendations are Gree wall heat pumps and Daikin wall heat pumps, due to their Inverter system, impressive efficiency (up to 80 percent of heating capacity at -30 °C), very low noise level, and component quality, covered by warranties for 10 to 12 years.

Choosing a heating system is never easy, but if you rely on specialists in the field, you are sure to find the best version for your home and achieve savings.
